Why all of these disasters and ailments?

All praise is due to God, Master of the heavens and the earth, the Supreme Creator whom he created man in the best of mould we send greetings and salutation may the peace of blessing be upon him, Prophet Muhammad (a.s), to his family, his companions and all of those who follow his guidance till the Day of Judgment.

Disasters, blazing fires, floods, earthquakes, incurable diseases, massacres and many other phenomena have given a bleak picture to the world in which we live in.

A wise and righteous man would ask: Why are these unpleasant phenomenon are happening? What are the cause and the reason for all this? Does the hand of men have anything to do with all these things?

But a believer, who firmly believes in Allah, immediately understands the reason and the cause of this destruction, because he has read and understood the word of Allah which in the Quran He says:

ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُمْ بَعْضَ الَّذِي عَمِلُوا لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ (41)

“Mischief has appeared on land and on sea because of what men have earned by their (own)hands, thus (Allah) gives them the taste of some of their actions: This way they can come back (to Him).” (Rum:41)

Respected brothers and sisters, we are a witness to these daily bitter phenomena’s and actions which are happening throughout the world.

Earthquakes, lava, floods, tornadoes, gruesome killings and other destructions, are taking the lives of hundreds and thousands of people throughout the world. These happenings appear and seem to have no end in sight instead they move from one area to another increasing their intensity year after year.

Indeed, we feel the loss of innocence and our sympathy and solidarity is with them, but we must sacrifice to stop this global destruction in which we live in and of which God has created it in the best of form and in the best order for us to follow and live in.

Men continue to misuse the development of technology and have begun to create their own laws in contrary to Allah laws and order. Little do they understand that Allah’s laws and His order are masterfully created for us as how to live in this world in harmony and follow them? Neither men nor jinns will be able to create or bring about a better law than the one which Allah has created for us.

أَلا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ (14) هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمْ الأَرْضَ ذَلُولاً فَامْشُوا فِي مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا مِنْ رِزْقِهِ وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ (15) أَأَمِنتُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَنْ يَخْسِفَ بِكُمْ الأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَمُورُ (16) أَمْ أَمِنتُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَنْ يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِباً فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ (17) وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ (18)

“Should not He who has created know? And He is the Most Kind and Courteous, All-Aware (of everything). He it is, who has made the earth subservient to you, so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision and to Him will be the Resurrection. Do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will not cause the earth to sink with you, and then behold it shakes? Or do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will not send against you a violent whirlwind? Then you shall know how has been My Warning? And indeed those before them belied, then how terrible was My punishment?” (Mulk: 14-18)

O Mankind! Our creator has forbidden us to cause mischief and destruction. He has forbidden us certain things because they cause destruction and devastation on earth, on sea and on humans. He has forbidden the bad things because they disturb the social order among peoples and disrupt the equilibrium ordered by the Merciful and all Powerful God. That is why Allah says:

إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالأَنصَابُ وَالأَزْلامُ رِجْسٌ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ (90)

“O you who believe, Intoxicants, gambling and arrows for seeking luck or decision are an abomination of Satan’shandiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful.” (Maida:90)

Let us listen to our Messenger, Muhammad (a.s.) in which he predicted such sufferings and destruction thus warning us of a dire punishment for the performance of these filthy actions and a dire punishment for those who are indifferent from Allah’s order thus allowing such actions to take place.

قال عبد الله بن عمر بن الخطاب : كنت عاشر عشرة رهط من المهاجرين عند رسول الله –صلى الله عليه وسلم – فأقبل علينا رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – بوجهه فقال : يا معشر المهاجرين خمس خصال أعوذ بالله أن تدركوهن : ما ظهرت الفاحشة في قوم حتى أعلنوا بها إلا ابتلوا بالطواعين والأوجاع التي لم تكن في أسلافهم الذين مضوا ، ولا نقص قوم المكيال والميزان إلا ابتلوا بالسنين وشدة المئونة وجور السلطان ، وما منع قوم زكاة أموالهم إلا منعوا القطر من السماء فلولا البهائم لم يمطروا ، ولا خفر قوم العهد إلا سلط الله عليهم عدوا من غيرهم فأخذوا بعض ما في أيديهم ، وما لم تعمل أئمتهم بما أنزل الله في كتابه إلا جعل الله بأسهم بينهم .

Abdullah ibn Umer ibnul Hatabi tells us: I was the tenth among the 10 Muhajeerin sitting with the Prophet, which he turned to us and said: “O Muhajeerin, there are 5 things in which I pray to Allah that you should never live to see:

1. When immorality becomes open among a group of peoples, then they shall be tried with diseases and direful pain which they have not seen before.

2. When people will cheat in measurement and scale of balance, then they shall be tried with difficult years with absence of food and dictatorship.

3. When people cease to give zakat from their wealth, then Allah will cease the rain from the sky and if it were for the animals never would Allah allow any rain to fall.

4. When people break their promises and their oaths, then Allah shall send them a leader from outside which then they will extort their wealth from them.

5. When the Imams will cease working according to Allah’s message, then Allah will throw between them division and enmity. (Ibn Maxhe)

Dear brothers and sisters, many people today, are justifying their actions with the freedoms and human rights but they have surpassed the limits of their logic of morality and human behavior. They assume that man is free to do whatever they wish, because that’s what he wants, but they forget the consequences and implications which such behavior could have in their lives and the social order in the world. Then with their actions they even surpass the animal acts in which Allah tells us in the Quran:

أَمْ تَحْسَبُ أَنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ أَوْ يَعْقِلُونَ إِنْ هُمْ إِلاَّ كَالأَنْعَامِ بَلْ هُمْ أَضَلُّ سَبِيلاً (44)

“Or do you think that most of them listen or understand? They are only like cattle; – nay, they are worse astray in Path.” (The Criterion – Fourkan: 44)

The worst of this is that some of the Muslims especially the youth, with a pretext of civilization, progress and fashion, they follow some of these deviant behaviors of these peoples.

No Muslim will prosper if he or she abandons the teaching of Allah and pursues other lifestyles to befit their desires. Civilization has nothing to do with using drugs, alcohol, gambling, immorality, same gender marriages, going to night clubs and other deviant behaviors of this modern civilization. Wilts the prophet attracts our attention saying:

عن حذيفة قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وس: ))لا تكونوا إمعة تقولون إن أحسن الناس أحسنا وإن ظلموا ظلمنا ولكن وطنوا أنفسكم إن أحسن الناس أن تحسنوا وإن أساءوا فلا تظلموا((

Transmitted by Hudhejfe that the prophet to have said: “Do not become blind saying: If people do good and we shall do good, and if they do bad then we shall do bad, but be among those that are persistent when people do good then you shall do good, if they do bad you should not do bad.” (Hadith Hasen)

Therefore, the prophet tells us that we should not be people without personality and without value. We should be observant and not blind, worse, like cattle which are led wherever the shepherd leads them.

Let us not deceive no one from this life with the recreation of this modern civilization, because this lifestyle does not give you happiness and without a doubt one day regardless how long we live we will die and then return to our Creator then He shall take into account all we did and how we lived in this life.

Dear brothers and sisters God almighty tells us whilst saying:

وَاتَّقُوا فِتْنَةً لا تُصِيبَنَّ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مِنْكُمْ خَاصَّةً وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ (25) وَاذْكُرُوا إِذْ أَنْتُمْ قَلِيلٌ مُسْتَضْعَفُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ تَخَافُونَ أَنْ يَتَخَطَّفَكُمْ النَّاسُ فَآوَاكُمْ وَأَيَّدَكُمْ بِنَصْرِهِ وَرَزَقَكُمْ مِنْ الطَّيِّبَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ (26) يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَخُونُوا اللَّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوا أَمَانَاتِكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ (27) وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَأَوْلادُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ عِنْدَهُ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ (28)

“And fear the Fitnah which affects not in particular (only) those of you who do, and know that Allah is Severe in punishment. And remember when you were few and were reckoned weak in the land, and were afraid that men might kidnap you, but He provided a safe place for you, strengthened you with His Help, and provided you with good things so that you might be grateful. O you who believe! Betray not Allah and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amanat. And know that your possessions and your children are but a trial and that surely with Allah is a mighty reward. (Enfal:25-28)

O Our God protects us and our families from the trials of these times.
